Development of an advanced leak noise detector for pipeline inspections
Dmitri Shilov (U of A Applied Physics ’06; NAIT Electronics Eng Tech ’08) works in R&D at Russell NDE Systems, specializing in acoustic leak detection. Since 2016 he has led electronics, firmware, and data-analytics design for “Navigator,” a new in-line Leak Noise Detector. Its fluid-contact acoustic sensor delivers maximum sensitivity to leaks and gas pockets. Affordable and owner-deployable, Navigator is poised for wide adoption across water, wastewater, and oil pipelines, reducing pollution and health risks while advancing NDE. Owners can insert and extract the device without service interruptions.
