Celebrate innovation and community at the 1st ASTech Awards Regional Innovation Spotlight on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, hosted at the iconic Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley, Alberta.

For over 35 Years, the ASTech Awards has brought together industry, government, academia, and entrepreneurship – in the continuous circle of innovation, for societal and economic benefit. And it is through this collaboration that the ASTech Awards is being brought to each region – this time working in partnership with the Grande Prairie Regional Innovation Network (GPRIN) during the ever-popular 16th Annual Growing the North conference (Feb 18-20, 2025)

The ASTech Awards Regional Innovation Spotlight brings together a national and pan-provincial audience of innovators, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, government and community members – to celebrate and collaborate, recognizing local excellence and fostering growth.

Local Celebration of ASTech 2024 Award Winner:

Tracy Persson, Founder of My Breast Day Inc., won the ASTech Award for Regional Innovation – Grande Prairie, for her collaborative work with healthcare and innovation centres on: Supporting Health for Women on Reservations and Beyond. As a Champion for Breast Cancer Awareness and Innovation, Tracy’s journey has taken her from tech startup founder, lifelong entrepreneur, breast cancer survivor, and community champion.

Persson’s app “My Breast Day” features a variety of software and support for patients. Tracy is also working in partnership with the Grande Prairie Hospital Foundation – and the Alberta Cancer Foundation on a $1.5 million fund-raiser to support a portable mammogram unit, which would result in better health outcomes through earlier detection for women and their families on reservations.

Special Keynote Speaker, and past ASTech Award Winner:

Dr. Philip J. Currie, internationally renowned Canadian palaeontologist, professor at the University of Alberta, and a founding figure of the Royal Tyrrell Museum, will share insights from his extraordinary career and discoveries. As per past presentations, Dr. Currie will share how Alberta’s investments in science and technology have advanced not only knowledge and understanding at a global scale, but have provided local economic value through tourism, film/media, and more.

A Member of the Order of Excellence of Alberta, and the 2006 ASTech Award Winner for Outstanding Leadership in Alberta ScienceDr. Currie has dedicated his career to uncovering the mysteries of dinosaurs, and educating the public. His groundbreaking research on the evolution and classification of carnivorous dinosaurs and their connection to birds has reshaped our understanding of the prehistoric world. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of Canada’s most celebrated scientists, on the significant discovery and contributions of community members in the Grande Prairie region.
