Edmonton Home of the Most “Canadian” Metal
Canada’s unique one dollar coin, ‘The Loonie’, is made from Aureate-Bonded-Nickel, pioneered by Sherritt Gordon Limited in Edmonton. The nickel is the most familiar of Sherritt’s plated and metallurgically bonded coinage materials, which include Nickel-Bonded-Steel, Aureate-Bonded-Steel and Nickel-Bonded-Bronze. All are recognized for their high quality and low cost by the governments of more than 25 countries around the world who are Sherritt Gordon customers. From 1985 to 1991, this family of newly developed coinage materials generated $188 million in sales.
