Bringing Alberta Science And Technology To The World Stage
Dr. Robert Crawford has worked relentlessly for many years as a science educator and ambassador. Through his many exceptional contributions, Dr. Crawford has helped bring Alberta science and technology to the world stage.
Expanding Public Awareness
Dr. Crawford became chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta in 1979. In 1982, he chaired a task force that led to sweeping changes at the Department of Computing Science and in 1988, he became acting chair of the department. Dr. Crawford’s pioneering efforts in the area of technology transfer between universities and industry led to the formation of the Industry Liaison Office. He has been involved in numerous community-university linked activities to improve public awareness of science, technology and research.
Tireless Effort
While at the Faculty of Science Office, he inaugurated the Faculty of Science Visiting Committee. In 1994, he helped initiate Research Revelations, an annual showcase of the university’s research to the general public. Dr. Crawford also took an active role in ASTech, initially as a volunteer at the first gala event and then, from 1991 to 1998, as executive director of the Foundation.
He worked tirelessly behind the scenes to promote, enhance and raise the standards of the ASTech Awards. Dr. Crawford is currently an advisor to the Alberta Science and Research Authority. His countless contributions to the development and promotion of Alberta’s science and technology to the word will be recognized for any years to come.
