2025 Winner: Researcher of the Year
Transforming Stroke Treatment
Based at the Cumming School of Medicine (University of Calgary) and providing care at Foothills Medical Centre, the Calgary Stroke Program unites clinical care and research to improve stroke outcomes. Since the late 1990s it helped lead Canada’s adoption of clot-busting therapy and, with the Seaman Family MR Research Centre’s early 3T MRI, catalyzed world-class imaging research and trials. Embedded in Clinical Neurosciences and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, the program built Alberta’s stroke system of care and is now expanding through the ACT-GLOBAL initiative.
