2023 Finalist: Women in Innovation
Finalist: Bing Cao, Ceo of Nanode Battery
Initiative: Advanced Anode Materials Development for Rechargeable Batteries
Rechargeable batteries play an ever more important role in the sustainable energy landscape, while being used on applications ranging from portable electronic devices to grid-level energy storage. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) represent the dominant commercial battery technology. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have recently emerged as a promising alternative to LIBs.To meet the demand of emerging energy storage scenarios, such as electric vehicles, advanced rechargeable batteries with higher
energy density and lower cost are highly required.
Nanode has developed the best anodes for sodium ion batteries in the world, and complementary anode for lithium ion batteries. If adopted in the market, 2M tonnes of CO2 emission will be saved. The success of Nanode will create cleantech job in Alberta, and contributes to Canada’s value chain in batteries, electric vehicles, and battery storage.
