GeoSAFETY – Geoscience for Subsurface Assurance oF Energy TechnologYs
Dr. Rick Chalaturnyk and Dr. Gonzalo Zambrano and the Reservoir Geomechanics Research Group ([RG]²) lead GeoSAFETY, advancing subsurface assurance for energy technologies: underground energy storage, CO₂/H₂ storage, geothermal, and nuclear waste repositories. Chalaturnyk, Energi Simulation Chair (U of A) and CSA chair for the first CO₂ storage standard, is an SPE Distinguished Lecturer. Zambrano drives CCS with patented downhole MMV tools and recognized physical-modelling leadership (CGS/ISSMGE). Their work trains the next generation of engineers and enables AI-informed plume modeling to optimize CCUS networks.
