Dr. Karim El-Basyouny, City of Edmonton Research Chair in Urban Traffic Safety, is a leading road-safety scholar advancing data-driven management with LiDAR and other remote sensing. He partners with the City and transportation agencies to embed rigorous science in roadway design and operations (spanning speed management, urban safety, and Intelligent Transportation Systems) to meet active and equitable transportation goals. His work shapes evidence-based policy across North America. Honours include the 2024 Killam Annual Professorship.
